This week we learned about Scandinavia. We learned about the Vikings, we made a Viking ship, and we drew runes (Viking letters). We listened to Norwegian music composer Grieg. Mommy read some Norse mythology. The Vikings tried to settle in North America at a place they called Vineland many years before Columbus was here. The Native Americans ran the Vikings off.

Speaking of Native Americans, we have been reading books about Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims, and the first settlers from England. We made Thanksgiving turkeys out of pinecones, paper and felt for the head. We cut feathers out of construction paper, then we wrote what we were thankful for on them, and then we stuck the feathers in-between the scales. That was a fun craft project. For Thanksgiving we went to our Uncle Steve's house in Jackson and camped in their yard. We got to see our cousins, our three Aunts, my Uncle Steve and my grandparents (on my Mom's side of the family). We had lots of fun!

Thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving and S.S. unit! That's very interesting about the early Scandinavian settlers in Vineland.
